Propaganda from pillar to post – the word is overused especially when it comes to our political past. But is propaganda really a relic? Or can it still be useful today, perhaps in promoting this event?

From demonisation to “good” propaganda, The Unlearning Symposium aims to unravel the definition of propaganda and explore its many forms as well as reveal the mechanisms of its functioning.

In the discussion we will analyze the specificities of propaganda in the Central European context and explore its relation to global trends. We will examine the factors that create a seedbed for propaganda, and seek strategies to recognize and decipher it. What role does critical thinking play in countering conspiracies and disinformation? In line with the perspective of Jonas Staal, who inspired the ongoing exhibition The School of Propaganda, we will discuss the potential of “good” propaganda. Is there a legitimate use for this tool? What ethical dilemmas are we thereby exposing ourselves to?
