“Kids can make it,” trust the senior artists

Participants:

Nikola Ludlová, The Jindřich Chalupecký Society, March 2024

The Jindřich Chalupecký team commissioned senior artists to design bookmarks for the Collective Manual for Sustainable and Inclusive Institutions. The bookmarks feature original artwork made specifically for this purpose by our partnering senior artists from the Cultural Community Center in Prague, as well as a message from the authors to the readers.

Using poetic language, and humor, the messages convey the unique experience of being alive on this planet, pointing to the beauty of our world, which is nevertheless ephemeral and threatened, and prompts us to be present and grateful. Others communicate trust in children and the youth who face unprecedented challenges. Another message addresses the fact that the advanced age of authors does not diminish their interest in and relevance to the art world and public affairs at large.  In 2023 and 2024, the JCHS engaged attendants of this Center in various capacities as consultants, feedback providers to our programs, as well as speakers at our public events. Reciprocally, the Jindrich Chalupecky Society employees and collaborating artists participate as guest speakers at the Center’s public events. The engagement of the senior artists in the production of the publication, which is the major material outcome of the two-year project Islands of Kinship, is an example of the ways how the JCHS includes and empowers target audiences and fosters participation.
